Wild weather.

This past Thursday I left work at 5:30 pm. I usually take the back roads going home as far as Trumbull to miss all the traffic on the Merrit Parkway heading north. It took me three hours to get home. The last time it took me that long was when we had bad snow storms during the past winter, but this was rain and hail. A tornado warning was issued for the Trumbull, Fairfield area, just the place I happened to be at the time. The rain was coming down so hard, the wipers on my car couldn’t keep up with it. I figured the best thing to do was to try to wait out the storm under an over-pass along the Merrit. As soon as I did that, about seven other drivers had decided to do the same thing. The wind was really picking up at this point. But it was the rain and the hail that amazed me. I’d never seen rain that heavy in my life, and I grew up in Ireland. the hail was about 3 quarters of an inch in diameter, and I figured the best place to be was under this overpass. I seriously was expecting my windshield to come in on top of me it was that bad. The lightning was amazing and the wind was howling pulling branches off the trees and across both sides of the parkway. It was also amazing to see that not too many people where even attempting to move, there was maybe one or two cars that passed me in the roughly 30 minutes I waited there. I decided to move on as soon as it looked like it was getting lighter. Bad move. About a quarter mile down the road there was a flash flood which had essentially closed the parkway and only one car at a time was getting though. It seemed as if I had gone right back into the center of the storm, again with the hail, rain and high winds. I eventually made it home, but what an experience. I’ll post some video I managed to take with my digital camera. If you where in this storm, drop me a comment on it. Later.
